Patty Philbrook

I am a Contracting Specialist here at Nobis Engineering.

Tell us about yourself.
I started my career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a clerk-typist and worked my way into the Acquisition field as an inspector of waste disposal sites, transportation equipment and lighting maintenance contracts. I became a Contract Specialist in the early 1980’s and then transferred to Pease AFB in the late 1980’s to administer large construction contracts. Upon facing the closure of Pease AFB, I went to work in private industry as a Construction Project Manager and a Contracts Administrator. In 1990, I returned to DOD to work as part of a Pentagon-based twelve-member team to convert the former Pease AFB facility over to civilian use. Five years later I went to work for the Defense Contract Management Agency administering the extremely large Tactically Advanced Computer, 4th generation contract along with about 100 other contracts in the Southern New Hampshire region. In 2000, I opted to stay home to raise my daughter. I live in Stratham, New Hampshire, with my husband and 10 year-old daughter, and have a 23 year-old son who works as a forester in West Virginia.

What do you do outside work?
I love to read and go through one to two books a week. I also love to create art quilts working with different fiber media and embellishing techniques.

What are some things that most people wouldn’t know about you?
I play a mean game of Scrabble. The 24 words that use Q without a U are important for everyone to know along with the 102 two-letter words! Anyone interested in a game?

Why did you choose Nobis?

Actually, Nobis found me. I looked for several years for a position that was less than full-time. My resume was spotted and I was put in touch with the company.

What are you working on right now?

I mainly work on the large Federal subcontracts dealing with Electrical Resistance Heating, and I coordinate the reporting requirements for the company under the The Recovery Act (ARRA) for both Federal and state Recovery-funded work.
