  • Project Manager - Environmental (Concord, NH)
    Seeking a full-time Project Manager to represent the company in communications with clients from initial effort, throughout the entire course of agreement activity, and in post-agreement activities on a regular basis ; communicates with the appropriate Resource Center Manager and Profit Center Manger or other designee relative to project status and performance ; and manages the project team. Participates in initial client meetings, provides support and assists in presentations. Participates in the negotiation process and formulating work plans or proposals. Becomes familiar with the client’s organization, key people, and sensitivities and works with Profit Center Manager to develop strong client relationships. Informs the client of the firm’s services available beyond the scope requirements for future service contracts. Maintains understanding of project financial issues including: project budget, terms of agreement, changes in agreement scope and billing process. Schedules and records all meetings and ensures follow up on decisions. Monitors performance of client responsibilities and communicates deviations to the client. Implements applicable firm policies bearing on client relations. Issues start and stop orders to team members as related to project progress and client directives. Establishes goals for project consistent with contract agreements. Knows fee arrangements, management system, and project schedule requirements. Determines team staffing requirements and works with appropriate Resource Center Manager. Delegates authority and responsibility to degree required for project needs. Ensures project files and reporting are maintained. Monitors progress and takes action when team performance deviates from established plan. Monitors team performance to ensure compliance with contractual arrangements. Monitors product quality, design and technology to ensure consistency with contractual arrangements. Implements the firm’s policies that have an impact on team activities. Makes final decisions in matters of team technical performance relative to procedures and end product as consistent with contract requirements and company procedures and policies.

    Supervisor Duties: Directs and has the authority to supervise the daily activities of the project team as well as the activities subcontractors involved in the project. May carry out supervisory responsibilities of project staff members in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university; and six to twelve years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed in NH as a PE or PG is required; experienced in CERCLA or RCRA hazardous waste site investigation and remediation, QAPP/SAP/HASPs, Phase I and II ESAs, RAPs, remedial implementation, environmental compliance audits, and NH Petroleum Funds; knowledge of hydrogeology a plus. Certification and/or significant previous experience in asbestos, lead paint, PCB and other Hazardous Material (HazMat) Assessment and Abatement a plus. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Must be able to travel periodically.

    Senior Project Manager - Environmental (Lowell, MA)
    Seeking a full or part time Sr. Project Manager to serve the company as one of its senior, most experienced and seasoned managers to support Federal projects under government contracts, primarily EPA RAC. Additional responsibilities include leadership, mentoring of staff, risk management and loss prevention, managing larger more complex projects, program management, managing special projects, marketing and anticipating the long-term project-related needs for the company.

    Essential duties:
    Leadership – by actions and example, performs duties in a manner that demonstrates the values and standards of the company to clients, employees, and suppliers. This includes managing projects in accordance with company standards and policies, interacting with staff in a supportive and positive manner, and representing the company professionally and proactively to clients and suppliers. Anticipates and plans for the long-term technical resources that will be needed to perform work.
    Mentor/Trainer – Provides formal and informal on-the-job training to project staff and project managers. This includes identifying areas where training is needed, presenting the need to Resource Center and Training Managers, performing in-house training, and identifying outside training opportunities that will be appropriate for staff.
    Program Management – May be required to administer and act as the primary point of contact for large multi-task work orders and projects, on-call contracts, or oversee an entire program or multiple projects for a client. Works closely with and coordinates with Resource Center Managers, Profit Center managers, and the Principals to plan and commit company resources. Responsible for overall client satisfaction as well as all technical and contractual requirements.
    Special Projects – May be called upon to manage special projects that come up occasionally. Special projects may involve both internal and external tasks that are outside of the ordinary duties of managing projects and staff. Special projects may include marketing, teaching, participating in professional association boards/committees, etc.
    Risk Management/Loss Prevention –Identifies loss prevention issues that may develop, informs appropriate management, and takes appropriate preventive measures to minimize risk. Risk management responsibilities including ensuring adherence to contract terms and conditions, complying with applicable regulations, and maintaining project health and safety.

    Supervisory Duties: Directs and has the authority to supervise the daily activities of the project team as well as the activities subcontractors involved in the project. May carry out supervisory responsibilities of project staff members in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.     Education and Experience: B.S in Engineering or hard science. M.S. preferred. PE or LSP/LEP preferred. Minimum of 12 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience including a minimum of 8 years as a Project Manager. Superfund Project experience as well as strong engineering or science background preferred. Excellent writing and communication skills required. Capable of working well in a team environment and mentoring junior staff. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Must be able to travel periodically.

    Project Scientist - Civil (Concord, NH)
    Seeking a full time temporary Project Scientist (Erosion Control Professional/CWS) to serve as an internal resource to the Civil, Geotechnical and Environmental groups on issues that are wetland and stormwater related. Essential duties: Field erosion control monitoring on large construction project to determine how the site may be impacted and will impact the conceptual design of the proposed project. Works with engineers and designers in developing the conceptual design in order to comply with wetland regulations. Assists engineers with selecting the best design alternative to wetland impacts and/or other site conditions. SWPPP preparation and review. Wetland delineations and permitting. Assists with preparing work scopes and budgets for wetland and stormwater related projects. Attends meetings with developers, engineers, scientists, geologists, and conservation commissions to provide expert testimony and determine how construction may impact a wetland or other natural resources. Prepares reports and studies such as functions and values analysis to assess the most appropriate use of a property. Prepares proposed mitigation plans and reports. Utilizing bioengineering principles, works with engineering staff in designing geotechnical restoration of properties that have been affected by erosion from surface or ground water by introducing natural vegetative components to prevent further damage to existing property. Collect necessary field date through observation or through basic field data collection techniques using field instruments such as compass, tape measures, turbidity samplers, cameras, and other instruments as needed. Use engineering software and computer hardware necessary to complete design projects. Software may include computer assisted drafting and design (CADD) software, spreadsheet applications, and other applicable software. Hardware may include personal computers and plotters to prepare engineering and design documents. Must work with a variety of staff including engineers, scientists and administrative staff to efficiently and effectively deliver work product. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

    Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Botany, soil science, wildlife biology or freshwater ecology or related field and at least 5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CWS and/or CPESC preferred. Familiarity with applicable environmental rules and wetland regulations, USACE 1987 Manual and Methodology of wetland delineation, and specialized knowledge of plants, soil classification, and hydrology is required. Exposure to civil or geotechnical engineering is desirable. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Must be able to travel periodically.

    Hydrogeologist/Geochemist - Environmental (Concord, NH)
    Seeking an experienced hydrogeologist or geochemist for remedial investigation and feasibility studies (FI/FS). As an RI/FS technical lead, will conduct geologic and hydrologic characterizations, site contaminant investigations, and remedial alternative assessments. Further, lead site field investigations, oversee the implementation of remedial actions, prepare technical reports and publications, conduct technical presentations and serve on oversight teams negotiating remedial actions with EPA and/or State.

    Essential duties: Responsible for: development of work plans and cost estimates; design and implementation of field sampling and testing to characterize surficial and groundwater hydrology, contaminant fate and transport; data analysis, visualization and interpretation; preparation of technical memorandums and reports. Also responsible for third-party technical review and oversight of responsible party work plans, technical reports, and field activities. Additional tasks may also include participation in business development proposals and technical presentations; preparation and submittal of technical papers or abstracts.

    Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Hydrology, Geology or Geochemistry. Minimum of 7 years of experience. Professional Geologist or equivalent type of certification is required. Applied knowledge of mine site hydrogeology/geochemistry, fractured bedrock hydrogeology and relevant experience conducting CERCLA RI/FS preferred.

    Candidate must demonstrate significant experience in the following: conducting contaminated sites field investigations and hydrologic characterizations; performing geostatistical analyses including spatial interpolations; estimating the nature and extent of contaminant impacts and developing complex conceptual models of contaminant fate and transport. Excellent writing and communication skills required. Capable of working well in a team environment and mentoring junior staff. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.     Project Manager - Civil, (Lowell, MA)
    Seeking a full time Project Manager to be responsible for developing and nurturing a civil engineering team in our Massachusetts office. Essential duties: Develop and implement strategy to pursue civil engineering opportunities in Massachusetts in concert with profit center managers, marketing teams, and business development managers. Establish a sustained workload for Massachusetts civil team and work closely with the NH civil team to balance workload for both teams. Establish new relationships with customers and foster relationships with existing customers to establish sustained base workload for civil team. Determines team staffing requirements and works with team staff to ensure they have sufficient workload. Monitors team morale and maintains positive working environment. Delegates authority and responsibility to degree required. Ensures project files and reporting are maintained. Monitors progress and takes action when team performance deviates from established plan. Maintains understanding of project financial issues including: project budget, terms of agreement, changes in agreement scope, billing process, and settlements. Schedules and records all meetings and ensures follow up on decisions. Monitors performance of client responsibilities and communicates deviations to the client. Implements applicable firm policies bearing on client relations. Issues start and stop orders to team members as related to project progress and client directives. Initiates or modifies project reporting procedures or information as required and discusses deviations from the firm's policies with the appropriate Resource Center Manager prior to taking action. Establishes goals for project consistent with contract agreements. Knows fee arrangements, management system, and project schedule requirements. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and 8-12 years of related experience is required.

    Project Engineer, NH Federal Services (Concord, NH)

    Seeking a full-time Project Engineer to serve as a mid-level project team member to perform engineering analysis and calculations, as part of environmental projects that involve CERCLA, RCRA, or state environmental regulations projects by performing the duties described below. Oversight of more junior team members and subcontractors is expected. Essential Duties: Assist in the preparation of CERCLA-site Remedial Investigations and Feasibility studies. Review and interpret engineering reports, design drawings and specifications, vendor submittals, maps, regulations, field test results, aerial photographs, and other data. Communicate technical information with vendors, accurately document such communications. Perform calculations and analysis to evaluate, select, and design feasible, cost-effective engineering alternatives to investigate and remediate soil, sediment, surface water, and/or groundwater contamination. Prepare, review and modify, as necessary, technical reports, specifications, remedial designs, plans, calculations, and other documents. Significant involvement in field activities for all types of remedial design investigations and remedial construction projects. Prepare work plans and cost estimates. Develop CPM project schedules to evaluate and track project resource allocation. Collect field data using standard environmental sampling equipment and measurement instruments (e.g. survey equipment, flow meters, water quality probes, etc.) Use software and computer hardware necessary to complete analysis of projects, including Microsoft Project (or Primavera). Implement quality control and quality assurance measures.

    Bachelor of Science in Environmental, Civil, Geological or Chemical Engineering; seven to ten years experience; PE preferred. Knowledge of and experience with environmental remedial design and construction projects, especially treatment systems, including demonstrated work experience overseeing subcontractors on these projects is a plus. Seeking an organized and schedule driven individual to support project. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle. Must be able to travel periodically.

    Project Engineer - Geotechnical (Lowell, MA)
    Seeking a full-time Project Engineer to serve as a project team member to perform geotechnical engineering analysis, planning, and/or design tasks for roads and highways, landfills, buildings, towers, railroads, airports, bridges, harbors, channels, levees, dams, tunnels, and other infrastructure projects. Essential duties and responsibilities: Review and interpret engineering and environmental reports, maps, drawings, specifications, regulations, ordinances, field test results, design manuals, aerial photographs and other data necessary for geotechnical engineering projects. Communicate technical information with equipment and materials vendors, accurately document such communications, and apply the information obtained to the relevant project work. Will have involvement in the resolution of design problems and internal quality assurance. Observes test pits, soil borings, and rock corings and performs geotechnical classification of soils and rocks, field tests, and prepare boring logs. Select samples for laboratory testing. Prepare geotechnical design calculations, construction cost estimates, and determine the geotechnical feasibility of a project or project feature based on analysis of the prepared engineering calculations, cost estimates, and other collected data. Prepare, review and modify, as necessary geotechnical reports, specifications, plans, details, engineering calculations, construction schedules and cost estimates for a project. Observe and/or inspect project sites prior to, during, or after construction to monitor and/or assess construction progress and ensure conformance with engineering plans, specifications, regulations, and accepted construction and safety standards. Visit project sites and evaluate ongoing construction practices by meeting and talking with construction contractors and subcontractors, owners, regulators, and other consultants and prepare written construction inspection and observation summaries. Use Engineering software and computer hardware necessary to complete boring logs, engineering analysis and engineering design projects. Software may include computer assisted drafting and design (CADD) software, geotechnical software applications, and spreadsheet applications. Hardware may include personal computers and plotters to prepare engineering and design documents. Other related duties and responsibilities may be assigned. Bachelor of Science degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering curriculum with a strong concentration in geotechnical engineering required. (M.S. in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering preferred). Minimum of three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiar with pertinent sections of current building codes as well as AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specification, MassDOT, NHDOT, Maine DOT, VTrans, RIDOT, and Conn DOT bridge and highway design manuals and specifications, working with MS Office software as well as geotechnical engineering software such as LPILE. Group, GRLWEAP, LogDraft, gINT, etc. will be required. PE in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or the ability to acquire within 12 months strongly desired. Excellent written and verbal skills required. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel/work at different locations.

    Project Engineer/Project Geologist - Environmental (Concord, NH)
    Seeking a full-time Project Engineer / Project Geologist responsible for detailed evaluations of soil, groundwater, surface water, hazardous waste site investigation and remediation needs. Field Operations Lead (FOL) work for complex field studies. Must be able to utilize and understand components of field sampling equipment. Understanding and trouble-shooting of mechanical and electrical systems for remediation and/or operational equipment.

    Essential duties: Review and interpret engineering reports, vendor submittals, maps, drawings, specifications, regulations, ordinances, field test results, design manuals, aerial photographs, and other data necessary for assigned projects. Communicate technical information with equipment and materials vendors, accurately document such communications, and apply the information obtained to the relevant project work. Must be able to evaluate site conditions, collect and analyze appropriate data, utilize software (Excel, Surfer/Grapher, etc.) and other methods to evaluate trends and perform calculations and prepare well-written and complete reports. Knowledge of SPCC Plans, air permitting, hydrogeological modeling (as applicable to degree), and NH and EPA regulations. Prepare calculations and work with project team members to evaluate the feasibility of projects based on preparation and analysis of the calculations and/or other pertinent data. Prepare, review and modify, as necessary, technical reports, such as Remedial Action Plans and/or Feasibility Studies, Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) for Brownfields/CERCLA sites, remedial action bid specifications for private, state or federal clients, detailed calculations, and other project documents. Significant involvement in field activities for all types of remedial design and construction projects. Use of applicable project scheduling software to evaluate staffing, budget, and schedule milestones. Oversee collection of necessary field data using basic field sampling and/or instruments such as field survey equipment, tape measures, flow meters, turbidity samplers, cameras, and standard environmental sampling equipment.

    B.S. in Environmental, Civil or Chemical Engineering, or B.S. in Geology or Hydrogeology. Master of Science is preferred but not required. (EIT required if engineer), NH PE or PG preferred. Minimum of 6 to 8 years experience with consulting firm with increased level of responsibility for chargeable project deliverables. Must be able to travel periodically.
