Corinna, ME

As prime contractor to the USACE New England District and USEPA under a cost-reimbursable contract, Nobis was selected to conduct remedial actions to address soil, groundwater, and bedrock DNAPL contamination at a former woolen mill site. Nobis performed an accelerated site characterization, assessed several remedial alternatives, and conducted various innovative pilot studies. Remedial actions included nine full scale in situ chemical oxidation applications at four separate source areas. As a result, contaminant mass was significantly reduced. Through fate and transport groundwater modeling, Nobis successfully demonstrated that continued pump and treat remedies to contain the plume were unnecessary which resulted in significant cost savings.
