Former Notre Dame High School/Burgess School, Berlin, NH
This 1.2 acres Brownfields site was occupied by a school from 1906 until 1982, with the exception of an undetermined period between 1906 and 1941 when it was occupied by a textile mill for industrial sewing. The 13,000 square foot brick/glass site building has been vacant since 1982 and fell into disrepair and a fire in 1999 destroyed the gymnasium. Nobis assisted the City of Berlin in developing an approach for renovation and/or demolition of the building for future commercial or residential development.
Our work, which started in 2004, consisted of Phase I and II ESAs included QAPP preparation, hazardous building materials survey including PCBs, development of cleanup specifications for asbestos, lead-based paint and PCBs and oversight of site cleanup.
