Since 1980, The Friendly Kitchen has provided a meal for the hungry in a warm and caring, non-discriminating environment through the coordination of community volunteer resources.  In 2011, The Friendly Kitchen suffered a devastating fire.  Unable to rebuild at their current location, they were forced to seek a new home.

The Friendly Kitchen purchased a 1.4 acre previously developed parcel on South Commercial Street to construct a new 5,800 SF building and associated parking. Nobis joined the team to provide civil site design, landscaping and permitting services.  The site was designed to accommodate delivery trucks and emergency vehicles, and provide pedestrian connectivity to town.  The site layout and grading plans included proposed parking areas, underground utilities, drainage controls, and site access improvements. The low impact design controls storm water through on-site infiltration.  The design promotes groundwater recharge and does not increase the burden on the municipal drainage system which is at capacity. The landscaping design includes native and adaptive trees, shrubs, and perennials that do not require irrigation.  A Conditional Use Permit for deferral of parking space was requested from the Planning Board to reduce impervious cover and lower project costs. A Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) was also prepared to be kept on-site during construction of the proposed improvements.

As Nobis is a proud supporter of The Friendly Kitchen, employees assisted the rebuilding effort by volunteering their time during the design and permitting process.
